Ham, Egg and Chips - the healthy way!

Brrrrr! It is certainly cold out there today! As we were shopping in Nottingham City Centre yesterday we found ourselves caught in a snowstorm! 6 hours later and 6 inches had fallen covering the city with snow!

We've had lots of fun going on pretty snowy walks and making a snow man in the back garden! Have you been having fun playing in the snow too?!

Whether you like to make snow angels, or watch everyone else enjoy the snow by a hot fire, we will all be needing something hearty to keep us warm tonight!

My suggestion is ham, egg and chips! But (for those of you who have stuck to your New Years resolutions) it doesn't have to be unhealthy! Just follow the healthy swaps below for a delicious dinner that will keep you warm tonight.

First of all, make sure there is plenty of veg on  your plate! I went for half a bag of spinach (don't worry when it wilts it shrinks) and a portion of baked beans - which are one of your five a day woohoo! If you can fit any more veg on then go for it!

Next you'll need your healthy chips! Don't go down to the chippy - its far too cold out there! Instead, cute up a jacket potato into slices about 3/4 of a centimetre thick then cut lengthways to make chip shapes! Squirt an oven tray with some 1 cal oil, or, using a pump action oil spray lightly coat it. Chuck on the chips, season well and give them another little spray of oil.

Place these in an oven at gas mark 5 for half an hour. When their time is up, don't fry your egg! Instead, crack it straight onto the baking tray!

Serve with your veg and some lean ham and tuck in!

See! Not all hearty food has to be naughty!

Keep warm everyone.
